In the summer of 2017 the Fairhurst Gallery in Norwich hosted Trees and Other Objects, an exhibition of works by Steve Baker and Mike Dodd. This book, which includes the images shown and many more besides, accompanied the exhibition. The central connection between the two artists’ work is their engagement with the landscapes around them. Baker’s recent work includes photographic images in diptych form and in misaligned halves, inviting the viewer to look again and focus on the artist’s intention. Dodd’s work spans temporary sculptures, sometimes animated by music and dance, and a large-scale, nine-segment, disorienting drawing of Kett’s Oak, a tree beneath which a famous group of rebels gathered in 1549.
